Some Backstory

The early years for me were pretty intense - though I was blessed with loving and supportive parents, I also experienced some deep losses and psycho-social trauma at a young age.  The result was dealing with strong negative emotions, low self image, and social anxiety.  I moved into a space of contraction, withdrawing from my surroundings to the point where a primary school teacher labeled me as “slow”.  Ironically, many years later in University I was labelled at the other end of the intellectual spectrum. In truth I don’t believe in labels.  Humans cannot be so easily categorized.  I am instead interested in human behavior.

I actually grew up hating exercise and self-identified as “lazy.” In 2010, I saw my mom lose 75lbs and decided maybe there was something to healthy eating and exercise... Once I discovered the world of fitness, I fell in love with exercise, healthy eating and the way this lifestyle change made me feel. I started my fitness career working at Curves in 2011, and from there I went on to become a Canfitpro certified Group Fitness Instructor Specialist, Personal Training Specialist, Healthy Eating and Weight Loss Coach, & Post and Prenatal Fitness Specialist...  I took training after training beyond these certifications to go on to teach countless modalities of styles of fitness... I thoroughly enjoyed teaching Mossa programs like Group Power, Group Fight and Group Centergy. Each time I took training it was a new opportunity for my body and mind to develop new skills and cohesively work together. Exercise made me feel alive and so empowered.

The shadow of the fitness industry is of course the emphasis on the way the body looks, which perpetuates disordered eating amongst many professionals. Pregnancy was one of the most healing experiences in terms of my relationship with my body and the gift that it truly is. It came at a time I was teaching so many classes and really struggling with my self image and how that connected to my perception of my validity as a “fitness” professional. Here’s what I learned:

“Fitness is not beating your body up to look a certain way. Fitness is the strategic movement of the body, so that you can do all the things you want to do to have the highest quality of life.”

I’ve devoted my life to the study of psychology and mind tech, and through committed and wholehearted dedication to “walking the talk”, I’ve been able to rise and recover from a long history of disordered eating, self - sabotage, and episodic, trauma-related depression and anxiety.  I am grateful for these experiences and for the life I currently live, and I’m passionate about sharing what I have learned, helping my clients to also transform their experiences, helping to connect them to their own inner Guru - their own wisdom, strength and self-love.

...Evolution of My Movement (Motivation and Education)

The Really Formal Stuff:
Because of my interest in Human behavior, I earned my BA at Vancouver Island University in 2010, majoring in Psychology (minor Creative Writing).  That same decade I explored creative expression through the Motion Picture Production program at Capilano University-College. I then went on to attain certification in Communcations Counselling (also at Vancouver Island University) and Neurolinguistic Programming Coaching (Certified Coaches Federation) in 2015.

Lifelong Learning:
Let’s face it - I am a self - help, positive psychology nerd.  I am constantly reading, learning, practicing, and refining strategies and tools to optimize this life experience!  I believe that the dark times that I have lived through and overcome have been some of my most powerful teachers.

I’ve experienced the dark side of the fitness industry - where “image” is obtained at a terrible price, through eating disorders.

I’ve lived through the sudden and traumatic loss of loved ones, at a young age, and of loving a family member through seasons of suicidal ideation.

I’ve known the dark, harrowing days of abusive primary relationships - when I couldn’t love myself enough to pull away from this - my son was born, and protective Momma-Love kicked in.  When he was 2 weeks old I realized that it was time to make some big changes.  And so I did - I let go of what was not serving me or my son, and turned my focus back to elevating and nourishing.

I learned the primal techniques of Spiritual - biotechnology with Hemelaya and studied with Elliot Hulse and Krisana Loche (Osho Immersions & Tantric Energetics).  In January 2019 I dove deeply into the study of the Eight Limbs of Yoga and Kundalini Yoga & meditation with Jay Sutton Brown of Manipura Yoga College.  Devotion to daily Kundalini meditation has truly allowed me to ground in my “knowing”.  I trust myself - I am the process.  I trust the Universe inside and all around me.

There is purpose to this existence and I believe that what we do with it MATTERS. As this lifetime’s journey unfolds, I am ever embodying the most empowered version of myself, and my commitment is to serving YOU on the path to do the same. Empowering ourselves through the movement of mind, body and soul.
